There are a few ways you can get around from town to town or access different regions in Alaska. You can take rail cars, rental cars, buses, air taxis, ferries, and helicopter rides. We’ve chosen to highlight various routes you can take with different types of transport modes. Don’t forget about checking out the things you can do when you get there!

Regions of Alaska

Arctic

This is a difficult yet amazing destination to get to due to the unpredictable weather conditions. But if you do get to fly out or go by boat to the Arctic, make sure you get a glimpse of the native cultures there and the polar bears.

Southwest Alaska

This region is accessible by plane and once you’re there, you can check out active volcanoes, walrus on the coastlines, and the grizzly bears at the Lake Clark National Park.

Town to Town

You can get to most towns from Anchorage. After all, it is the biggest city in Alaska where most of the population lives.

Travel Routes By Train, Bus, Air, Car, or Ferry

All the rail cars depart from Anchorage and you can go almost everywhere by train for sightseeing and reveling in the beauty of the mountains, glaciers, lakes, streams, whales, and bears.

From Anchorage, rail cars will take you to Denali, Talkeetna, Fairbanks, Whittier, Spencer, Grandview, and Seward.

If you’re up for some cool sightseeing on a bus you can take a bus tour from Anchorage to Seward or Denali. There are several car rental companies based in either Fairbanks or Anchorage.

Air Taxis

Regal Air Bear Viewing will fly you over Lake Clark Park and the Brook Falls to watch bears from up above in the sky. There is also Regal Air Flightseeing which will take you up in the air and fly above Denali, and Knik and Colony Glacier.

Who said you couldn’t get around Alaska easily?
